Tori Miller Receives ASM International Silver Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Materials Science

In recognition of her exceptional achievements and contributions to the field of materials science, ASM International has selected Tori Miller, Ph.D., assistant professor, as a 2023 Silver Medal Award winner.  

Established in 2010, the Silver Medal Award recognizes the leadership of mid-career members of the association to encourage them to continue to grow, nurture, and further contribute to the profession. The award is presented annually to individuals who have demonstrated remarkable advancements in materials research, innovation and leadership.   

Dr. Miller’s research in novel metallic materials has revolutionized the understanding of material properties and their applications in various industries. Her work has paved the way for developing lightweight, high-strength materials with extraordinary mechanical and thermal properties, opening new possibilities for aerospace, automotive and renewable energy sectors.  

Upon receiving the award, Dr. Miller said, “I am honored to be recognized with the ASM International Silver Medal. This is a testament to the collaborative efforts of my incredible research team and the support of my mentors and colleagues throughout the years. I continue to be driven by a passion for pushing the boundaries of materials science and its applications, and I am excited to keep exploring.”  

Dr. Miller joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering in September 2019. Prior to her appointment at the University of Florida, she was an assistant professor at North Carolina State University. She received her Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2011 and earned her Ph.D. at the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2016. 

The award will be presented to Dr. Miller in October during the International Materials, Applications & Technologies Conference in Detroit, Michigan.
