Biography
Jamie Womack grew up in Gainesville and fell in love with chemistry in high school classrooms just miles from the University of Florida. That curiosity about how the physical world works has never left her. She began her career at SLB in the energy industry and trained as a deep-sea metallurgist with expertise in corrosion. This job gave Jamie the opportunity to travel the globe and see how equipment was made. She was the manager of an international team of Materials and Metallurgical Engineers before she made a career pivot into the Aerospace industry. For Jamie, NASA’s mission to explore the unknown for the benefit of humanity has always resonated with her and her technical and leadership talents were key to connecting her to NASA. Today, Jamie serves as Deputy System Manager for Materials for the International Space Station, tackling some of the most complex materials problems in human spaceflight. Her favorite work includes anomaly investigations and technical integration, which puts her at the heart of keeping astronauts safe in low earth orbit and beyond.
A 2025 NASA astronaut finalist, Jamie plans to pursue selection again, fueled by persistence and curiosity. Outside of work, she loves cooking, crocheting, outdoor adventures, and everyday moments with her husband (a fellow UF engineer!) and their two toddler-age daughters.
