We are reaching out with a message of support and solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) members of our community amid increasing violence and discrimination, and a history of the same, in the U.S.
There has been a marked increased racial violence and hate against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) over the past year, as detailed in the Stop AAPI Hate National Report. The most recent attack in Atlanta is just one example of our nation’s struggle with racism and violence against people of color broadly, as well as the historical record of anti-Asian American sentiment in the United States.
We stand in solidarity and support with our colleagues of Asian-descent across our students, staff and faculty. Our community values the presence and contributions of our Asian and Asian-American members.
Here are several resources that our community members might find helpful:
- UF Counseling and Wellness Center (CWC) services
- UF Multicultural & Diversity Affairs
- BAM! – Best Advocacy Movement training
If anyone in our UF community encounters a hate crime or bias incident and you find direct or indirect exposure to such events troubling and/or traumatizing, or that they elicit emotional reactions, we ask you to please report the incident to the UF Respect Team and UFPD at respect.ufsa.ufl.edu.
