The department is also home to the Nuclear Engineering (NE) program, which is the top NE program in the state and the only Florida university offering graduate degrees in nuclear engineering. It is home to the UF Training Reactor (UFTR), one of only 31 in the country. The UFTR is one of two reactors in the southeast and offers a unique opportunity for nuclear and nuclear materials testing under harsh environments.

Materials Science & Engineering Excellence Fund Nuclear Engineering Excellence FundThis fund provides undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Material Science & Engineering with awards that will enhance their University experience through experiential learning. The recipients will be identified as Botic Family Scholars and supported financially to enhance their learning and defer the costs of experiences outside the classroom. Experiences may include industry, internships, national lab placement and any programs that give students experiences beyond the classroom.
Donate Now to This Fund Student SupportCreated in honor of Dr. Edward Dugan, a University alumnus and professor emeritus, and an expert in radiation/particle transport and Monte Carlo simulations. The spendable income from the Fund shall be used to support professional development activities for outstanding student members of the American Nuclear Society, to heighten national recognition and stature of the University’s nuclear student programs and the students themselves.
